Isabella Sassi Farìas was born in Como in 1978, where she currently lives. Due to her family origins she has both Italian and Chilean background and nationality.
She studied architecture at the University IUAV in Venice and one year at the FAUP in Porto, where she soon developed an interest in photography, studying with Guido Guidi and Lewis Baltz.
She works as an architectural and landscape photographer, focusing primarily on interiors, reuse, product design and exhibitions projects, as well as portraits and still life.
She has worked with the “Politecnico di Milano” in the course of Architectural Photography held by Marco Introini and as a teacher of photography at the School of Design. She collaborates with the the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), in a workshop that deals with drawing and photography. She also holds classes focused on the investigation of the inhabited space and historical architecture through the photographic medium.
She combines her professional activity with artistic research.
Starting in 2005, she exposed photographies and videos in some collective exhibitions in Lille, Barcelona, Venice, Treviso and Rubiera and, in a personal exhibition in Como, a series of photographies on the border’s space between Italy and Switzerland.
She realized a photographic survey in Chile on a social housing project in Santiago, in coordination with the University IUAV (Venice) and the PUC (Santiago). She also spent two months in La Habana (Cuba), investigating on cohabitation. One of the photos of the project “Abitare l’Avana” has been nominated at the “Premio Nascimben” in Treviso.
In 2013 she curated the exhibition of Guido Guidi “La Tomba Brion di Carlo Scarpa” exposed in the “Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio”.
Last year she was among the 10 finalists in the photo contest "Lugano-Tesserete. Evoluzione di un percorso ferroviario" organized by Choisi-one at time.
She has recently collaborated with La Triennale di Milano photographing various modern and contemporary architectures in Lombardia Region; this work will be soon be published on www.architetturedelmoderno.com
She is currently exposing in Como’s landscape project Chilometro della Conoscenza the exhibition "Occupazione Artistica/Artistic Occupation”.
Her clients include: La Triennale, Politecnico di Milano, Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, Archi-Swiss review of architecture, engineering and urban planning, Associazione Villa del Grumello, Consulta Regionale Lombarda degli Ordini degli Architetti and Swatch Retail, Scuola Universitaria Professionale della Svizzera Italiana.
She currently collaborates with magazines, architects and designers in Italy, Switzerland and abroad.
